Academy at a glance
The ICWA Academy: Courtroom Skills Practicum is a live, in-person, practice-based training experience designed to help participants build confidence before they are called to speak, testify, or support an ICWA matter in court. Unlike standard, lecture-only seminars, this academy focuses entirely on active, hands-on preparation. ICWA representatives, tribal advocates, social services staff, caseworkers, and attorneys are frequently expected to present active efforts documentation, support child-placement recommendations, and communicate clearly under pressure, often without ever practicing these skills in a structured courtroom setting. This training provides the space to bridge that gap. Over the course of three days in Phoenix, participants work step by step through core litigation scenarios, case preparation, and active efforts justification. Under the guidance of experienced practitioners. All attendees stand at the podium, present evidentiary foundations, and receive constructive, practical feedback all in a safe environment.
